The COVID-19 pandemic

as a SOURCE OF INFECTIOUS MEDICAL WASTE

Against the background of the COVID-19 epidemic, the amount of medical waste being produced has quickly multiplied by four – or even five – at hospitals and healthcare and analytical facilities (professionals in private practice, testing centres, medical analysis laboratories, etc.) In order to cope with this massive influx, medical waste management has had to be rethought as a matter of urgency, with an increase in how often it is collected, some waste being transferred to other regions, a rise in the rate at which biomedical waste is treated and disposed of, strengthening of collection teams, etc.

Sterigerms®,

A FOR MEDICAL WASTE TREATMENT SOLUTION

Sterigerms® is a unique solution for £effectively neutralising infectious medical waste while reducing its volume by up to 80%.

POINT-OF-CARE DEVICE FOR MEDICAL WASTE TREATMENT

In response to this exponential rise in the volume of clinical waste produced, Sterigerms® reduces the disposal chain for potentially infectious clinical waste to a single stage (Sterigerms Point of Care). To be more specific, Sterigerms® brings the sorting, collection and neutralisation phases together in just one place, in other words the site on which the biomedical waste is produced (hospital, dialysis centre, laboratory, etc.)

The Sterigerms® solution offers a patented process allowing infectious medical waste to be neutralised by keeping it at a temperature of 150° C while compression reduces its initial volume by 80%.

DISPOSING OF MEDICAL WASTE

In order to avoid overloading collection centres, Sterigerms® renders the potentially infectious medical waste inert using its mobile devices – Sterigerms 12 litres and Sterigerms 60 litres. At the end of the treatment cycle you get a compact disk which can then be placed into a bag of household waste.

REDUCING THE RISKS OF SPREADING INFECTIOUS DISEASES

With this kind of volume of infectious medical waste to be treated, there has never been such a danger of infectious diseases spreading. This is a risk both to medical staff and patients and also to the people who have the job of collecting this clinical waste.

The Sterigerms® solution vastly reduces this threat by neutralising the infectious medical waste, thus offering any site producing biomedical waste the following advantages:

  • Greater protection for medical staff and outside operatives,
  • The ability to take back control over medical waste (social responsibility, protecting the environment, etc.),
  • Reduction of the site’s carbon footprint,
  • And optimisation of operating costs.
